Review: Anker Classic Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker (Only 3 inches??)

During the holidays, I was shopping around for a bluetooth speaker that could be used when guests come over. Considering that my wife and I live in a one bed room apartment, we weren’t looking for a hardcore speaker that can be heard across a football field, just a small, simple to use speaker.

My search came to an end when I picked up the Anker Classic Speaker on Amazon.

Let’s look at the speaker:

  • 3.2 x 3.2 x 2.4 inches – That’s ridiculously small! I currently have the speaker sitting under my monitor on my desk. Yep! A monitor on it’s factory stand will still be higher than the speaker itself!

  • 20 Hour Battery Life – This Anker speaker is able to hold it’s own charge, so if you do bring it with you, you should expect 20 hour of play time out of it. I’ve had the opportunity to fully charge the device and use it until it ran out of power, the result? Around 18 hour of battery life. I’m guessing the volume at which you play your music will have an effect on it’s battery life.
  • 33 foot Bluetooth Connection – Unfortunately I haven’t had the same to actually measure this with measuring tape but I did connect the device to my phone, place the device far inside my apartment, left the unit, walk down the hall, and my wife said that music was still playing. I may not know how many feet that is exactly, but it seemed pretty darn far!
  • Built in microphone – I didn’t realize this until yesterday, but this Anker device does have an inbuilt mic. I had the chance to open up a recording app on my computer and give it a try, and the quality was acceptable. It’s perfectly suitable if you’re looking to take a Skype call, but if you plan on recording a video, you’d be better of buying a dedicated microphone for that.

Let’s take a look at a few close up pictures I took of the Anker:

On the right side of the speaker, you’ll find the on/off switch, an AUX cord input and a micro USB slot to charge your device. Yes, this bluetooth device can either work via bluetooth or via an AUX cord. In the package you receive with your speaker, you will find an AUX cord, and a micro USB to USB charging cord – so you’re good to go out of the box. The sound volume coming from the Anker is quite impressive for a device this small but if you’re looking to utilize theses speakers at an outdoor function, you may want to look for a stronger speaker.

My final impressions on the Anker Classic Bluetooth Speaker? It’s a clear winner. This speaker has great battery life, lengthy bluetooth connection and most of all, has very solid sound quality. It’s easy to use out of the box, with easy pairing and Anker has truly kept the product to it’s name – being portable.
