Review: Milk Makeup “Meet The Fam” Bestsellers Set (A Gluten-Free Vegan Beauty Kit)

Milk Makeup is a vegan skincare brand I’ve come to know and adore for their bestselling Sunshine Oil as well as a few cosmetics, including the famed “Meet The Fam” Bestsellers set.

Although I’ve tested the products included before, with a desire to try out more variety and an appreciation for the company vision, I decided to invest in their “Meet The Fam” bestsellers set, a collection of popular cosmetics and skincare (plus an additional mascara). The brand is vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free-and suitable for all skin types.

In terms of the products being gluten-free, for those who suffer from reactions to gluten, it’s often extremely challenging to find formulations and information regarding ingredients, often leading to have to use other brands that may not be mainstream, or even desirable.

The value of the set is incredible, as it retails for $108 but is sold at a $39 price point. Included in the set are 6 travel-friendly products, each with a $17 retail value.

So if you’ve always wanted to try Milk Makeup but feel it’s too expensive to afford, this makes a perfect introductory product to try out a few bestselling products at once.

The set and included products definitely lasted longer than anticipated, which added even further value to the purchase.

In this review we cover some main features and an overview of the entire item as a singular product, breakdowns of the included products, as well as some pros and cons to bear in mind prior to purchase, and in accordance with individual skin type and complexion.

Milk Makeup “Meet The Fam” Bestsellers Set Review:

The set comes with the rainbow glitter clutch that holds the Milk products, as well as one Mini KUSH Mascara, one Mini Cooling Water Under-Eye De-Puffer Stick, one Mini Watermelon Brightening Serum, one Mini Blur Stick Matte Primer, one Mini Lip + Cheek in Werk, one Mini Highlighter in Lit, and one Mini Holographic Highlighter Stick in Supernova. The products range from cosmetics to skincare, and some have multi-use benefits.

While modest in size, they do offer quite a bit of (unanticipated) longevity, and should last several weeks-a few months, dependent on product. The shades are flattering, none of the products are irritating or caused any breakouts, and all can be used on sensitive skin, barring any specific allergy to an ingredient in a formulation. Considering the quality of Milk studios products and the high quality ingredients in the formulations, the price is actually quite reasonable and provides amazing value compared to retail.

I enjoyed using all of the included Milk studios products, and while there were a few where I would likely opt for another brands version, either due to price or preference, there were certainly none I disliked for any reason and none were irritating to the skin. I would definitely say the products are all suitable for different types of skin, and they feel nourishing, calming, and protecting.

While I don’t typically use highlighter products and was slightly more interested in the skincare products in this set, I appreciate that they are not shimmery or glittery and still offer a more matte finish.

If you’re comparison shopping and would like to check out some of our other Milk Makeup reviews while you’re here, be sure to check out our articles on the fabulous Kush Mascara and Cooling Water that we got in their full sizes to rate!

The skincare included is also great, and feels quite luxurious. I would recommend this to any fellow cosmetics or skincare junkie, and you’ll likely appreciate the inclusion of both in one kit. Below you will find a product breakdown with reviews on all of the included products in the set, and main features and benefits to use for each.

Milk Makeup “Meet The Fam” Set Included Products

Mini KUSH Mascara

This volumizing mascara got its name via the formulation, as the key ingredient in it is cannabis oil. The pointed tip can be used for bottom and inner lashes that are tough to reach without smudging, and the product is designed to be clump-free with an intense black finish. Formulated free of parabens and sulfates, the unique feature with this mascara is the brush design. Heart-shaped fibers promote long-lasting volume, length, and curl and lock on to lashes to reduce smudges.

Cylindrical fibers that are used in many mascara products often create a spidery aesthetic, while the construction of this brush helps achieve length and width volume free of any clump or accidents along the way. Cannabis oil locks to the lashes for thickness without fallout, and hydrates the lashes to promote a healthier aesthetic that lasts and works even after removing the mascara. The company also avoids using beeswax in the formulation by supplementing it with cannabis oil, which is known to have a lot of different benefits and uses in cosmetics and skincare.

While I thought this mascara was definitely decent and certainly not a bad product, it was not my favorite included in the set, as I felt it did get clumpy sometimes, and while it did lengthen lashes, it was missing a certain “wow” factor that can be achieved with other products on the market at the same price point. I would still recommend this for vegans in search of mascaras with beeswax formulations.

Mini Cooling Water Under-Eye De-Puffer Stick (.22 oz)

Cooling Water is a stick treatment that is formulated with caffeine and seawater that is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Using it I had no irritation, experienced no breakouts following use, and did not experience redness around the application area. You hold the stick and apply directly to the under eye area gently for cooling and soothing benefits, and the product actually has multi-use benefits. If desired, you may use on the neck, face, and body for a cool burst of invigoration, and it can also be used as a primer. It’s designed to treat dry skin, dullness, puffiness, and uneven texture, but it’s important to bear in mind this is not comparable to a serum designed to treat more advanced signs of aging or any fine lines. I love putting this product in the fridge for a while prior to use as it feels even better to use, and it is not at all sticky or greasy, so it never slips. It glides on the skin gently and feels refreshing and cooling, it’s the perfect pick-me-up for tired eyes, and great for puffy eyes in the morning or after long hours at work or on a computer.

A little product goes a long way and it lasted longer than I expected, which was nice. It became a daily go-to and a product I needed to take with me in my purse to always have on hand as needed, and it is extremely hydrating. It’s important to try to resist the urge to overuse it, as it does feel quite good and you might want to keep reapplying it, but I would highly recommend it.

Mini Watermelon Brightening Serum (.22 oz)

I was curious to try out this neon pink colored (tint does not actually show on skin) stick serum, as I don’t believe I’ve ever tried a stick formulation for a serum or moisturizer before. Designed to treat signs of fine lines and wrinkles, hydrate the skin, restore tone and balance, improve dullness, and promote a more radiant complexion, the product is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Formulated with watermelon fruit extract and Swiss garden cress sprout extract, it supports the skins elasticity and helps restore hydration.

The serum helps form a protective barrier on the skin to protect against environmental and sun damage, definitely brightens the complexion, and was extremely hydrating. I was skeptical about the stick construction of the product at first, but it’s actually quite compact and clean, and there are never any product spills or messes. Although it’s lightweight, the only downside is it seems a bit sticky. I would not say this product really provides any anti-aging benefits with use, however it does even out the complexion and skin seems hydrated and brightened. I would recommend this for preventative anti-aging benefits, and for those seeking a compact or vegan stick serum.

Mini Blur Stick Matte Primer (.19 oz)

While I don’t often use primers, I’m always reminded of the major differences in makeup finish and skin glow when I do opt to try one out. I wasn’t that excited to try the product as it does have some shimmer to it, but the finish was actually still matte and it didn’t appear glittery or tacky following application. The shade is universally flattering and suitable for all skin complexions, and the formulation is gentle and safe for sensitive skin as well. It’s oil and silicone free, and glides on the skin easily for a radiant but oil-free finish.

It helps mask the appearance of any fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and other skin imperfections, and also helps to provide hydration so foundation does not cling to dry patches. It can be used under a foundation or over one as a highlighter, but due to the shimmer I opted to use it before. The only issue with the Milk Makeup primer is it can be a bit drying, and is designed to combat oil, but seems a bit too dry for very dry skin types, dependent on amount applied and use. It is quite lightweight and has a really soft texture. While this isn’t a personal favorite compared to other products in the set, if you are a fan of illuminating highlighters you would probably really enjoy using this, as it seems to have more function as a luminous highlighter than a primer.

Mini Lip + Cheek in Werk (.21 oz)

This satin finish lip and cheek stick comes in a dusty rose shade that’s universally flattering, and provides buildable color for the lips and cheek area. It can be applied very conservatively for a very natural aesthetic, or layered on for more intense pigment, and it is formulated with avocado oil and mango extract. I really loved using this product and its multi-use benefits, and would definitely consider purchasing a full size, although it is pricey.

It is beautiful as a more sheer and natural type product, but also lovely when layered on for a more noticeable look. It has a really great hold that lasts all day, and I could see this tone being flattering on many different complexions. While I don’t often use multi-use lip and cheek products, and haven’t really enjoyed benefits using them in the past, this one is really phenomenal and definitely hype. If you’re seeking a good lip and cheek product in one, this is a great option, and while it’s rather pricey on its own, it does have multi-use benefits that make it a justifiable investment with added value.

Mini Highlighter in Lit (.23 oz)

This dewy, champagne-pearl-hued cream Milk highlighter stick glides easily on to the skin to deliver a natural glow. It has multi-use benefits as a skincare product that hydrates, and contains hydrating ingredients like mango butter, peach nectar, and avocado oil. While I was not a fan of the shimmer, the formula is velvety and quite buildable, so shimmer is not that noticeable if a small amount is applied. If you’re a fan of a shimmery radiant finish, you can layer it on as desired to highlight cheekbones and any areas desired.

It is safe for all skin types and sensitive skin, but not recommended for those with allergies to citrus or coconut oils. It provides a really dewy glow and the color is beautiful, and the glitter is quite minimal, so even if you prefer a matte finish I would still really recommend this product. It’s also universally flattering and suitable for all complexions, and smoothly glides on to the skin softly. Skin feels soft and fresh after using, and even as someone who is often confused by the hype surrounding highlighter products, I would highly recommend it.

Mini Holographic Highlighter Stick in Supernova (.25 oz)

While I typically would avoid purchasing anything with a “Holographic Lavender” color description, this powder highlighter stick actually looks lovely on cheekbones and even used as an eye color. It was not at all irritating, did not cause any redness, and actually looks quite natural after application.

It really just compliments the overall look and helps draw attention to desired areas, and it feels cool and moisturizing after application. It has a lovely scent, as many of the included products do, and it does not look chunky or glittery at all. I would definitely recommend this as a highlighter product, and it’s also universally flattering, so it can be used on a variety of different complexions.

Milk Makeup “Meet The Fam” Set Pros and Cons

Here is a look at some main pros and cons to keep in mind prior to purchase:

Pros

  • Value: at $39, the set value in terms of individual retail cost is $108, making this one of the most valuable bestselling collections available to test, and a great way for those who would not normally shop at the price point or splurge to try the products if desired
  • Cruelty-free company: company is cruelty free and does not test on any animals, and no animal products (including beeswax) are used during manufacturing processes, including beeswax
  • All products are vegan and gluten-free, suitable for use with those with gluten allergies with no reaction

  • None of the included products irritated my sensitive skin and there were no breakouts following use of the skincare or cosmetics included
  • Travel-friendly: all products can be taken on with carry on luggage or easily tossed in your purse or a gym bag for portability

  • Many of the included products have multi-use benefits and can be used in different ways or played with, adding value to all of the items included

Cons

  • Cost: while the value is undeniable, some may still feel the cost is not justified for the cosmetics category

Milk Makeup Meet The Fam Starter Set: Worth It?

Milk Makeup’s Meet The Fam’s Starter set is a great way to test out the brand if you’re in the market for skincare and cosmetics products and looking for a great value, or would not normally shop at the price point, which can be steep.

But for all of the included products, which actually do all last for several weeks-months of consistent use, this set seems like a steal. It’s also a great purchase if you’re vegan and/or gluten-free, especially as it can certainly be challenging to find good or high quality cosmetics options that fall into these categories. It’s a great gifting option as well as all of the products are paraben and sulfate free and suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

It’s great to see a set that includes skincare items as well as cosmetics, and all of the included products have great multi-use benefits which definitely adds even further value.

I would definitely consider purchasing a set again to use all of the included products particularly because of the incredible value compared to retail cost, and individual items can be pricey.
