Review: Cowin E7 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones (I don’t want to hear my neighbors)

Has anyone ever had really loud neighbors? I have. In just about every apartment I’ve ever had. I don’t know what it is but I consistently have a bowling alley upstairs. Or they’re moving furniture around at odd hours of the night. Maybe they like to play with marbles a lot. I’m not really sure what they do up there but it’s not easy to relax with it going on. That’s why today, we’re going to take a look at my Cowin E7 Headphone review.

Since I’m a non-confrontational individual I always just grinned and bared it, until one night I had a brilliant idea. Noise-canceling headphones. I’d owned a pair a long time ago but something ate the chord on it, another amazing thing about my luck with apartments, and I never went out and got another pair.

I went off to an electronics store and was looking for a pair, but most hit a pretty high price tag that I just wasn’t going to be able to pay. So, onto the internet, I went. I ended up finding these Cowin E7 Noise Cancelling Head Phones for $69 with “active noise cancelling” or $59 without. I splurged for the $69 version because I couldn’t handle my neighbors anymore.

Well, they’re stylish. I’ll give them that. That actually concerned me a bit at first, because a lot of the best looking headphones just really are mostly hype. I would not say that is the case with these ones, but we’ll get to that in a moment.

Build quality felt sturdy enough. Don’t go throwing them around, try to avoid snagging the chord on things, and all the normal stuff. They’ve yet to feel worn and I’ve been using them for a few months, so that’s a good thing.

The battery life seems pretty decent if we look at what the company promises, its 30 hours of playtime on a single charge. I usually charge them in the morning after I’ve used them all night and I haven’t had the issue of them dying on me really unless I forget to charge. And that’s on me. The longest I’ve used them without charging is about 24 hours, it was a long day and I didn’t take them off. That’s a weird thing to do and I don’t know why you’d do it, but I was happy they didn’t die on me.

They’re also quite comfortable. Feels nice on my ears, especially since the cups have a 90-degree swivel and I have a large head so this is sometimes an issue. Has a lot of adjustments that can be made and it holds in place nicely. They are also pretty lightweight, so they don’t end up feeling heavy on your head, I have that issue with a lot of brands. Another plus for these headphones.

On the topic of comfort, these feature swiveling ear cups. I didn’t realize how important these were for comfort until I owned these. Little minor adjustments that you make while wearing these from time to time definitely help for wearing these over long periods. I don’t think I’ll ever own a pair that doesn’t have this feature.

There’s also a convenient switch on them that allows you to switch through your phone’s playlist or to take a call through its onboard mic. I wasn’t sure I’d be needing this, but after having it for a while it’s been pretty useful.

All in all, these guys are pretty functional from an aesthetic and feature standpoint.

Noise-Cancelling and Sound

Well, what’s the point of these things if I still have to hear my neighbors playing basketball upstairs? I will say that so far we’re good on that aspect of it.

The noise-canceling in the Cowin E7 is not the best I’ve ever used. It has dampened all the hullabaloo upstairs, though. That was the whole point, so I’m satisfied. But, I am still able to hear certain things if it’s super loud. I would just call it noise dampening instead of canceling I guess. I’m not complaining about it, I’ve just used some super high-quality ones in the past and these don’t really compare.

Sound clarity is surprisingly awesome on these though, considering that these are bluetooth headphones and not ones hooked up with audio cables. This ended up being my favorite part of it, which surprised me. There’s a lot of tones I wasn’t getting out of my normal speakers, and certain songs are like listening to them for the first time. Plus my phone has a terrible speaker on it so it’s a lot easier to take phone calls when I’m at home with them on.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the sound quality here. I was satisfied with the noise canceling. For this price point, I don’t see things getting much better.

Well, I don’t have to listen to my neighbors as much anymore. For the price of $69, I gained the ability to have the nearest thing to solitude I’ve ever experienced in an apartment. I very much recommend these if you’re like me and need your alone time.

I’m not saying these are the best on the market for noise-canceling, but they definitely do the job. So far the battery seems to be holding its own. There are some complaints out there about the battery losing its charge over time, but they have an 18-month warranty so if you feel that’s happening you can exchange them.
